97 F150 stalling

My truck will stall when I try to give it the gas from a stop. The CEL comes on & it won't take gas It misses & stalls till I kill it & crank it again. The problem goes away after I recrank it. I can't get a code because the CEL goes off & it might be a week or 2 before it does it again. I changed the IAC last week. Could my TPS be going out? I've cleaned the tbody. I may try cleaning the Maf today. I'm at wits end & my mechanic is too. He drove it 2 weeks with a tester on it & it wouldn't act up. Any ideas? Thanks

Check for codes anyway. If the truck throws a CEL, the code will remain in memory until cleared out. May help get a better idea to what is going on.

I had problems with mine stalling and such for a while. Did the IAC and tbody thing. Ended up being the PCM. Doesnt sound like thats what this is though. Mine kept thorwing codes for different stuff, went and checked it out and nothing was wrong there. Replaced PCM and all is good. I have '97 f150 4x4. 101K or somewhere in there I had it swapped out.

I had the codes checked . It had none. I think I'll drive it longer the next time it does this & maybe it wil store a code. Thanks for the help.

Some places such as Autozone dont seem to be able to retrieve memory codes. They seem to be able to only scan it if the light is on.
If the check engine light has been on at all recently there should be a code stored.

I'm having my codes checked with a Ford scan tool. It didn't show a code stored. My buddy that works at Ford said to drive it longer next time it acts up or at least let it run longer. It has done this 5 times total but the light goes off when I kill it & restart it. I don't plan to buy another part till I get a code

You might try unplugging the mass air when this is happening- don't kill engine- unplug while it is running.See if it will rev up now, if it does- plug mass air back up and see if prob came back-- seen alot of bad mass air units do this intermittant at our dealership. About cleaning mass air---from a Ford tech. point of view--I wouldn't!!!

I have a extra mass air. I may try it & see if the problem goes away. The reason I thought of cleaning mine is I have a K&N fipk on the truck & they sometimes get oil in the mass air. The instructions I have on cleaning say to use electrial contact cleaners. I will try to unplug it the next time it acts up. Thanks for the info
