48K miles and no change since first 200. I hate the seats. After 2 hours of driving, my legs and back start to ache from lack of seat support and poor gas pedal position. Added seat foam, then raised seat base from floor, even tried capt's chairs and finally solved the problem...bought a Dodge. Now my wife drives the Ford back & forth to work...not long enough to develop problems.

Has anyone tryed removing the two front bolts from the bottom of the seat and shimming it up with some washers? This would change the angle of the seat and eliminate the too flat feeling everyone complains about.I haven't tryed it on my f150 but I've done this to other car's with good result's.

I did this mod within a week of getting my truck. Ended up with 3 washers under each front seat mount. Made a big difference in leg support and overall comfort.

didn't you test drive the truck before you bought it? if it was uncomfortable then buy another truck. it seems like some of you buy your vechicle with your eyes closed

A test drive will not give a true picture of seat comfort. We drove two F150s and noticed that in both the seats were hard, but something that could be lived with. After having the truck for a few days, I started get pains in my back. The washer trick fixed it for me.

I always feel like I am slding forward out of mine. Keeps me awake, I guess

Off subject: Thanks for the mod pics rouge. If the seat covers are that easy to remove...I can't understand why the dealer gave my brother such a hard time about replacing his that wore out prematurely

Hey lardman, there are a few hog rings that tie down the center sides, and those are the tough part of the replacement job. Just to add padding, it shouldn't be neccesary to mess with them. Try adding a little soft foam to the front bolster (and perhaps the washers under the front) and maybe that sliding forward will end. Good luck! Caution: be careful of sharp steel edges when working under these seats. They'll cut you but good - wear gloves!

I may mess with the stuffing but won't do the washers...don't want to mess with safety!

The washers do nothing to affect safety, it is basically no different than reclining the seat back an additional notch or two. If you are paranoid, you can cut some flat bar to the exact size of the seat track base; i used fender washers which have plenty of surface area. The factory bolts are more than long enough to handle more than a 1/4" rise in the front.

Compared to my buddies Chevy the ford seats suck. Im also having problems with the leather falling apart and the truck already looks trashed and it only has 25,000. Yes I do take the proper steps of cleaning and conditionong the seats regularly.

Hi Copper Penny, It seems that I am in the minority. I have the 04 Lariat with leather bench seat and six way drivers/passengers seat. I find them really comfortable, more so then the F250 Lariant I had in 02. Are your seats cloth? I suppose its a matter of preverence. Sorry to hear this. I felt that updated version in 04 really made a difference, especially for the SC which I own. I have a posting about best height and wheel combo. So, no one owner is ever satisfied. Best of luck. Tedmeister.

I like my seats, but I am posting to point out there is only one seat in all the F-150 trucks. I am referring to the front bucket, or bench with leather, with cloth, with power, without power, with memory, without memory, with lumbar, without, etc.

The seats are all the same.

I started with gray cloth bench manual, and I now have black leather power.

There are mechanical differences, but you can see where the frames are welded when they decide to make them crew or regular, or to add the shoulder belt mount. They weld on a couple spots to put in a child seat brace, or don't if it's not needed.

The lumbar is spot welded inside the seat, or not, depending on the option.

Even memory seats are the same, just the three motors have sensor attachments, and the same main switch with its 8 black wires is plugged into a memory seat harness, rather than directly to the seat motors.

I gutted a pair of SuperCrew cloth seats to put the power, memory, and passenger lumbar in my STX seats, (the heaters I sold to someone who doesn't live in the California desert) later I put SuperCrew leather on my seats. All the same basic seat. My manual pedestals went nicely on the SuperCrew seats.

These seats are very easy to work on, and are pretty good ergonomically. They remind me of Benz seats, in that they are firm and not cushy. But like Benz seats, they are good for the long haul.

I did find that being able to tilt the front up really helps the comfort, and so did adding a dead pedal.
Leather is also much nicer on my delicate skin. I think there is sandpaper in the factory cloth...
Chris
