What are the family plan and other plans like it going to do to the resale value of our fords down the line? cuz the big 3 all sold huge amounts of cars and trucks with there plans so now theres more ford trucks on the road than say there would of been at "normal" pricing, and they were sold at a lower price. is this going to hurt customers long term, who benefits from plans like these?_MassDog

Used car prices will still hold value. The premise you state is understandable. However, for that premise to hold true, the valuation of 2005 used vehicles would need to be priced below that of 2004. I just do not see that happening! What do you other fellas think?
The low lease deals did it to cars. It flooded the used car market with 2 year old low mileage cars. Try to sell a 2 year old Taurus and see how much you can get.
The family plans are really just an honest pricing system . The old sticker price was just a way of inflating your trade's value. Now people really know what they get for their trade.
I think all of these "plans" whether it's a family plan, rebate program, subsidized financing, blow out sale, what ever just points out that the prices are inflated and people know it. In addition, the buying public now has come to expect a rebate or super low % financing, huge sale price,... and the car companies are having a very hard time getting what their asking. Maybe they're asking too much????
We're in the market for a new '05+ Mustang convt. for my wife and we're going to wait a while until there's more incentives/bagaining room and a bit more inventory to move. It'll come.
Before I bought our Exp. I was in the market for a double cab Tundra. When they first came out Toyota wouldn't budge on the price and no decent financing etc. Now look, they're doing the rebates, blow out sales, ...... it happens to pretty much all vehicles. I admit the killer rebate/financing deal we got on the Exp. helped close the deal.
The Japanese car companies are as knee deep in this situation as the American companies.
I seen a kid with an 04 chevy flareside yesterday with a for sale sign in the window. I had to take a peek cause I was curious. He was asking $25k. I had to laugh. I can get a brand new diesel right now for 27k. Why would I buy his truck when I can get a brand new one just like his forthe same price or cheaper.
Cheap new vehicles. Make for cheap used vehicles. These sales wreak havoc on resale or trade in. I tried to trade one in a week ago. They said why do we want your trade. We are flooded right now with cheap trade ins. I drove to six different dealerships. It was a bad scene.
Actually this stupid pricing policy they are implementing right now will hurt their bussiness later, some years from now the market will be flooded with almost-new vehicles at very low prices against dealership prices (when the family plans stop, as they won´t be able to hold them for too long). What would you buy?. The best they could do is to find a market outside the US that accept those used vehicles and sell them there, and to apply a trade-in policy at home.
People are migrating to imports because they have better quality (or at least it appears that way), instead of the pricing race they have they should invest in that resourses in better development, manufactury procedures, and materials.
I was thinking of trading my 02 ranger for a 05 I searched the inventorys of the area and found they were $17,888 I thought that sounds good i payed 20,000 for mine in 02. Went to the local lot found 10+ used in the 01-03 area Than went to look at the 05's The trucks for $17,888 were 4.0 v6's but other than that they were compleatly stripped 2 door NO center counsel, power anything locks, windows, entry, sliding rear window, tow package. bed rail covers, + the re-design looks vary cheap. Their show floor model had 4 doors and nothing else with a price of $19,000. I dont think that you could get into what i got for the same price i got it for and what they were going to give me for my truck forget it.
American cars save up to $12,000 and not many want them
