Help, please! Expy Mach Audio Died
I have a 97 Expedition with a Mach Audio system that has stopped working. The head unit has power and is functioning normally. No sound from any of the speakers. I have tried both the aftermarket head unit that was installed when the system failed, as well as the stock tape deck unit that I dusted off an put back in. Both have power, show the level moving up and down with the volume level, just no sound at the speakers. I plugged the aftermarket unit into some other equipment and was able to verify that everything seems to be working just fine - even used it to power the subwoofer speaker directly to verify that the sub was working.
I have read many posts on this site referencing the right rear interior trim panel as the location of the amplifier - in front of the sub-woofer. Indeed it is there and is receiving power to the connector plug. Apart from not functioning, it doesn't seem to heat or even warm up under power as I understand amplifiers should do. No noticable burn marks or other indication of damage to the interior circuit board of the amp.
I am assuming that this burned out amp is at least part of my problem. What I can't figure out is if there is another amplifier somewhere else that powers the door speakers. This one seems awfully small to run four speakers and a sub.
Can someone verify for me that this is the only amplifier installed on the vehicle?
Are there any procedures that I could follow to verify that the amplifier is shot?
What would you experts recommend as a replacement unit that will provide the same function as I had before? I don't need anything spectacular as I was perfectly happy with the stock sound quality.
How much should I expect to pay for an equivalent replacement unit?
Thanks for your help,
Pete
