Unhappy exhaust systems

Been calling around the Windsor area for exhaust systems and am astounded at the prices.Midas wants $690 for one si/do raven with aluminumized 2.25 pipe.Santings ok tire wants $660 for the same but with a flowmaster. Is this for real or have i been out of hot rods that long?I'm terrified to call speedy about dynomax.Three years ago i had a set of z33 ravens installed custom for $700 on a stang at midas.Anyone Know where i can get it done cheaper in the Windsor area? The idea is to have it ready for a road trip next Sunday or i would do it myself just no time. One more thing where are you guys ordering your parts locally(Ontario).any websites would be appreciated.
cheers

There's more than one way...

To build a custom exhaust.
On my 63 Fairlane chop top, I used 2 factory 6 cylinder mufflers behind a 310 hp 289 with headers. On my 63 Fairlane 4 door, I used 2 factory Chrysler Lebaron turbo mufflers behind a 375 hp 352 with stock manifolds.
Both cars sounded great at idle. Real nice while cruising. And at full throttle, both cars were not excessively loud, but not at all quiet.
Both cars were done at non name brand exhaust shops. Just in case you're not familiar with these Fairlanes, a 352 does not belong in them and the exhaust is full custom.
My point is that you should get the yellow pages out & find the private shops & discuss your needs with them & see what they have to say. A good shop will know the differences between all the mufflers available including pipe sizes & flow.
AL.

I noticed that the prices have gone up. I think because the price of steel has gone through the roof lately and the increases get passed along to the consumer.(funny how the decreases in costs never get passed along!)
I had a job done on my truck that simply moved the tail pipes fom going straight back to the bumper, to going out at the rear corners so that they would clear the hitch I had to install. I priced the parts at Canadian Tire, bent pipes, clamps hangers and it came to around $40. I had the job done for $100 because I was in a hurry. They did a way better job than I would have done but $100 for tail pipes still seemed hi to me and thats when the guy told me he was paying a LOT more for aluminized pipe.
Before that I had the same shop make up a couple of pipes to connect the existing dual exhaust to headers that I installed. They charged me $200 and I was OK with that because it took the guy a long time to make all the bends to clear the tranny linkage on the drivers side.
I always take my exhaust work to the same guy, Minute Muffler. I think they are now part of Speedy? I have been going there for years and the guy is always fair.
Like DealFord said, shop around to the smaller shops. You are also driving a vehicle that uses a catalytic converter, how much of the quoted price was for this one piece? Maybe you could find a cheaper option for the catalytic?
