exhaust systems
cheers
On my 63 Fairlane chop top, I used 2 factory 6 cylinder mufflers behind a 310 hp 289 with headers. On my 63 Fairlane 4 door, I used 2 factory Chrysler Lebaron turbo mufflers behind a 375 hp 352 with stock manifolds.
Both cars sounded great at idle. Real nice while cruising. And at full throttle, both cars were not excessively loud, but not at all quiet.
Both cars were done at non name brand exhaust shops. Just in case you're not familiar with these Fairlanes, a 352 does not belong in them and the exhaust is full custom.
My point is that you should get the yellow pages out & find the private shops & discuss your needs with them & see what they have to say. A good shop will know the differences between all the mufflers available including pipe sizes & flow.
AL.
I had a job done on my truck that simply moved the tail pipes fom going straight back to the bumper, to going out at the rear corners so that they would clear the hitch I had to install. I priced the parts at Canadian Tire, bent pipes, clamps hangers and it came to around $40. I had the job done for $100 because I was in a hurry. They did a way better job than I would have done but $100 for tail pipes still seemed hi to me and thats when the guy told me he was paying a LOT more for aluminized pipe.
Before that I had the same shop make up a couple of pipes to connect the existing dual exhaust to headers that I installed. They charged me $200 and I was OK with that because it took the guy a long time to make all the bends to clear the tranny linkage on the drivers side.
I always take my exhaust work to the same guy, Minute Muffler. I think they are now part of Speedy? I have been going there for years and the guy is always fair.
Like DealFord said, shop around to the smaller shops. You are also driving a vehicle that uses a catalytic converter, how much of the quoted price was for this one piece? Maybe you could find a cheaper option for the catalytic?
