Ive heard they are expensivve compared to other prepay deals, but i gave no 1st hand experiance
Well, I got the phone for cheap ($40), and I don't talk a lot. I actaully figured if I get a 300 minute card, I only have to renew once a year and I get 25 minutes a month, which is probaly more than I'd need. I figured the cost to about $12 a month.
i have the tracfone, the motorola v60i and it works very well. cost of minutes is comparable to other providers, but i like the idea of not having a contract.
If you don't use your phone allot they are great. To keep the same number I would get a year card then even if you run out of minutes you keep your number. If you use your phone allot like me look into a plan they are a better deal but
I sell the Tracfone cards at Walgreens and they're extremely expensive. But they're good for a year when you buy the $100 card. So if you only use it for emergencies it would work. I've talked to people that have it around here and they say the reception isn't all that good... but that's just what I've heard.
I've had tracfone ever since they started. Bad credit so a contract phone is out of the question.
I got it because I got tired of having to find a pay phone to make a call. Just got a new one Nokia 1100 cheapo cause my other one fell off the cowling of my Liberty when I went around a corner. Don't really care for the 1100 but I needed another phone quick. Glad I read this cause I really want the V60i.
We even got my mother and my mother in law one for emergencies.
ive had one for about 3 yrs and have few complaints. i have the older digital unit where my wife has the flip fone (she liked its looks, but can't figure out how to use it). mine uses alltel as the primary network and has a great local calling area. i can change my system when i don't have a signal and usually will get a signal. it has the same quality as regular phones (or lack of it). i don't use a phone much, so its the best for me, but in order to renew for a year, i keep adding units so that it just keeps adding up. makes me want to call somebody just to shoot the s..t.
Check and see if you have Consumer Cellular in your area. We get it here in the Pacific Northwest. $16 per month for 30 minutes nation wide, no contract and a free Nokia phone. Can't beat the deal, plus it uses AT&T towers so it works just about everywhere.
I've had the service for 8 months now with no complaints.
I have had one for at least 3 years, costs me $21 every 3 months, not gonna find a regular cell phone sevice cheaper than that. I do only use it for emergencies mostly, but it does get to the point where I use it instead of my regular phone because the minutes roll over, and I feel the need to burn some minutes up. as far as reception goes,I called my kids last year from the Bristol NASCAR race, and it was as clear as if I were next door to them. they were 725 miles away in MO
I bought my tracfone three years ago when driving my son to college (he was on scholarship but had no car at the time). Could not afford any contracts and not that big of a phone users. Bought it mainly for emergencies.
As for reception. My son went on a week long college Geology class trip to various places that ended in a two day stay at the Grand Canyon and took his digital Nokia. On the way up, the class stopped at different sites to look at and to camp for the night. He would call to let us at the campsite to let us know he was ok. He told us the Tracfone got better reception and "send out" than others, in his group, who had contracts. Where others hit a "dead spot", his Tracfone would still send.
I still have my three year old analog and buy a card every three months. It has come in handy a few times.
I have the Nokia 1100, minutes arent bad, incoming text messaging is free, and I never pay roaming or long distance. Out texting going cost .3 units (basicly .3 minutes). The more minutes you buy at a time, the cheaper the per minute rate. Often they have specials......right now its an addittional 40 minutes with the purchase of 100 minutes.
