Was just on a road trip with my 03 PSD 6.0L stock CC F-350 towing enclosed 28ft car trailor loaded around 10,000lbs about 900km in 27oC heat, stock guages all read fine when the truck would just start to slow down like it was getting no fuel, slowed to 100km/h and trans would kick down like it was trying to accelerate, but just went slower and slower had no power. Pulled over truck stayed running, opened hood but nothing to see but there was lots of under hood heat. Closed hood got back in put it in gear and pulled out and truck ran like a freight train again. Did this twice only when loaded. Truck never showed any check engine light. Does anyone have any ideas here? I really don't know if I should go to the dealer to see what they say.
Changed both less then 3000km ago, I guess that doesn't mean it doesn't have something that may have plugged the filter I have been using Redline fuel catalyst lately, It may have loosened up something. Anyone have any other ideas?.
The truck does have the stock exhaust system on it and the truck does have 115000km's, maybe the exhaust is plugging up (cat or muffler) and causing some trouble.
Crash687 I don't usually tow this much weight just helping move my sister accross the province. The car hauler was a big brick behind the truck but beside the wind drag my truck was towing it like a champ, so I didn't think the truck was working to hard to tow it. I know the factory trans guage isn't a great guage to go by but even the water temps weren't showing hot. I usually tow only around 7000lbs with no truck problems so far. Does anyone know if it's possible for a stock truck to get high pyro temps and the computer will take safty measures and slow the truck down till it cools?.
I hope you don`t have the same problem I did. The oil temp is what was shutting mine down. I also had two cracked pistons. Truck would run fine till I hooked it up to my 32 ft trailer then it went south. I would take it to your dealer with trailer in tow so they can check it out.
I did notice that the oil filter housing under the hood was very hot it was making the wiring harness loom soft where it was in contact with it. My truck seems to still run fine after the road trip. What was yours running like actionjackson with the cracked pistons. Did the coolant show high temps or normal temp did you have any engine light come on. How many times did this happen before the dealer found the problem and was the problem cracked pistons or did the problem cause the damage to the pistons. I've never had this happen before, but I don't tow this much weight usaually, I've also been thinkingo of check my rad and other coolers to make sure there not plugged with mud or something reducing air flow.

The more I think about it I think the oil temp being hot might have been the problem. Travelling at 120km/h lots of passing and I forgot to take the damn bug screen off the grill for the trip. Never been a fan of the bug screens just for this reason but it was there when I bought the truck and has already scratched the grill so it doesn't look very nice with it off now. Hopfully I didn't hurt anything. Just thinking out loud guys.

With not knowing the truck personally I would change the fuel filters and have the exhaust back pressure sensor checked first and then try towing again. Maybe someone has had a similar situation but the engine being hot is normal when towing with the touch of your hand.
mine was doing the same thing, i've asked on a few forums and gotten nothing. just feels like it de-fuels, and you'll notice your fan is running 100% wide open constantly...
changed every filter, checked fuel pressure everything, not a code in sight... no idea what or why, but thankfully it hasn't done it since i had the head stud's and gasket's and injector's and....... done...
