I was checking my wife's Escape before a mini road trip this morning. When looking at the battery, that green light in the battery is starting to change to a yellowish-red tint. Is the battery almost spent? It's a 2003 escape, and we've had 3 really nasty winters in a row, so it may be about time. I just never noticed that light change colors before. Thoughts?????
I read up on this a little bit, and it's a built-in hydrometer. It measures the density of the acid in the battery. The density changes depending on the charge of the battery. It has a lense, and a little ball that floats up and down just like the ***** in the old anti-freeze testers. Depending on how high the ball floats, determines what color is seen in the lense.
If it's not green, it means your battery is not fully charged.
