I need a little help setting the choke on my carb. Know that it's getting cold outside when I first start my truck has alot of blue smoke comes out the back and it runs rought for awhile. It does fine when it's warm out side. It's a 75 F100 with a 390. It has an electric choke.
Blue,
Is your choke hooked up? Mechanically/electrically.
If so, there are three screws that hold the black round canister to the side of the carb. Look closely and you'll see that the round thing is mark richer/leaner with some arrows. Loosen the screws and turn the round thing in the direction you need. You need richer. Tighten the screws when your done.
Good Luck,
KingFisher
you wll also need to check and see that the choke pulloff is working. this when the truck is running supplies vac. and slightly pulls the choke open so it is not shut then the truck is warming up.
bluestang, when you stuck your finger into the snorkle the flap should be closed when cold. closed meaning its blocking fresh air from entering the air breather. once the engine is warm you should notice that the flap is open allowing fresh air to enter the air breather. you should be able to check this without sticking your finger into the snorkle.
what motor and carb 2bbl ford holley 4bbl? on some carbs the pull of is a vac pod that is screwed to the carb some have a vac line going to it. there is a arm that pulls back when running and this pulls open the choke so not to block to much air.
