[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Oct-02 AT 01:26 PM (EST)]Hey guys
I have a 77 F150 w/400 2bbl carb elec. choke and C6.
In the morning when you first start it it will start right up then die and then start right up again. When you take off from a stop while its cold it will die unless you give it gas realy slowly and then it still stumbles then takes off. I adjusted the choke so that when its cold it is just barely closed. It did this when it was warm out side also but it has gotten worse now that it is cold. anysuggestions
Thanks
DAvid
are you bumping the carb off high idle when you restart. i find that its not uncommon for the engine to start die and then restart. it should run on a high idle and you should pull the truck into gear and go. if you have the habit of starting the engine and bumping it off the high idle position before you select drive you will experience some hesitation or stalling.

If i am sitting at the stop light with my foot on the brake and the engine idleing like normal then when the light turns green and i give it gas it almost dies then takes off.

good deal, i would begin at the accelerator pump. the pump will be attached to the float bowl. the pump gives a quick shot of fuel and when it goes bad can create the flat spot off idle. i wasn't sure if you were talking about a cold start/choke problem or a warm drive problem. make sure the ignition system is up to snuff too.
when i bought the truck last summer i replaced the Coil, rotor. dist. cap, spark plugs, and wires. When you push the accelerator pump i can hear the fuel spray inside and see a mist come out the top of the carb.

retarded timing can make this worse also a egr valve with no delay valve or ported vac switch can cause this when cold. but you need to check the choke before you start the truck when cold. remove the air cleaner. full press the gas pedel and the choke should be closed. tight enough so if you push it with your finger you will feel a little resistance.
