Nutballs in the world...

I was working late (midnight-ish) in my home office with the lights off and the windows open to catch some cool night air....noticed a guy walking up and down the street repeatedly, just back and forth back and forth....he stopped and went into my neighbor's yard and seemed to just hang out. Didn't like that behavior at all, the neighbor keeps his tricked 2005 FX-4 outside all night and thought the guy might be casing it. Called the cops, but then lost sight of the guy. But when the police arrived in the neighborhood (all blacked-out in stealth mode) THEY SPOTLIT THE FREAK RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE! He literally was against the front corner of my house, trying to look in a window! Freaked me out. I pressed charges, had him arrested for disorderly conduct, got the police report, and found out he lives nearby in an adjoining neighborhood. I've never had any crime problems in this neighborhood before (there's actually 4 cops who live nearby), but this has me really freaked out....has anyone else had any close-encounters-of-the-wacko kind like this?!?

Sorry about the long story, but it's not like I've slept well since then so I had the time....

Can't say that I have, though I do live in a unusual city.

My area is quiet, though there was this guy walking down the middle of this street in an upscale district next to my not qiute upscale district.

To me, it looked like he was casing some cars for a quick rob and sell drug fix money.

But then, I'm no cop to make that judgemnet, so I called the police and let them handle the situation.

If you're worried about it, then see if you can get any info on this guy.

Just watch your back.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, MMM. My in-laws had a similar event a few years ago. My mother in-law woke up in the middle of the night and heard someone at the front door when she went over to the door, they were trying to open it. She could see the handle moving. Then something must have spooked the guy and he ran off and she heard the screen door shut. Who ever he was, he was lucky. There were 2 Dobermans asleep a few feet from the front door!

We have a few hoodlums in our neighborhood. (Mostly teenagers.)

The problem here is, when you call the police. . . after they leave, the miscreants love to throw rocks, and break glass on our house.

I did have a problem with one guy that continually allowed his dog to come onto my property to 'do his deed.' (This was usually late at night.)
I was working late on the pc one night, when this guy walks past the side of my house.
Apparently, the guy had to relieve himself, too. He walked over to my fence (which is 5 feet high, board on board cedar) and started to relieve himself. The motion sensor light came on, so, I got up to see what was happening in my side/back yard.
I saw this guy, so, I raised the window, popped the screen out, and yelled to him that my yard wasn't a stinking toilet!!!!!
I thought this guy was going to 'turn inside - out' trying to get away!!!
When he ran, he 'wet' himself!!!!!!

He and the dog haven't been back!!!

Only thing close to that was a wrecker driver that cased the junkers the ex left in the backyard one day.

He got out and walked into the trees on the side of my place, probably figuring he was unobserved.

I have this report from Papa Don, who is most likely the most heavily armed expert shot for miles in any direction...

Nothing was out of place, and nothing is missing, so its in the back of the mental file as "Curious".

It goes like that around here, we notice things. I think the local peace officers are happy that I'm home too - its been very quiet for many months.

We don't do watches or anything like that, but when anything odd happens we come out to see what it is!

Well we have a bad nut job around here its ME. I still believe in insanity claus. but I do have a neighbor that lives next street behind me and 2 houses up that surfs the neighborhood at about 10 pm or later looking for money to visit his mom in the hospital. but its for crack. Worst part is he's a 2 x 79 chevy truck owner. Scares the bejesus outa me, the chevy part.
My wife on the other hand has had her run in's when she was in east end of London. with a Mental Hospital at the end of the street and ex-husband when drunk always tryn to kick in the door. Because he wants her back when she wasn't in a relationship with someone. And there was the guy who was trying to break into the factory that was at the back of her yard at 3 am.
MadManMatt Glad you got him caught. You never know what to expect from people like that. And with the complaint, if something happens around your house he's prime #1
suspect.

People like that is the very reason I'm armed and dangerous. I'd love to catch some a-hole inside my place. It'd make my day!

In this day and age, survival and documentation will get you further than punitive actions.

Evade, get pictures, stop it only if you just can't stand it. (and have overwhelming means to do so)

On the other hand, I can't afford to lose anything. I've always wondered what happens when an overwhelming force meets an immovable object (with NAVAL training)...

I suppose you could always PM me if you were that curious as to how it feels to be stupid AND stubborn.

i hope to never have to use deadly force, always keep an eye open though on the "Creepers" in the neighborhood. but, if it does come down to it, behold the powers of a 12 gauge pump being cocked....hopefully that sound alone will work.

Night before last we had about 5 carloads (ricers yet) of teenage hoodlums racing up and down our road. There's a wide turnout in front of our house, which is on the apex of a sharp turn. The punks stopped there to BS for a bit, and a friend who was staying with us went outside to see what was up, which triggered the motion light. They loaded up fast and jammed. When I got up to go to work, I found our mailbox had been knocked down, along with about half the mailboxes on the road. Let's see how they like a plate steel mailbox inside the standard mailbox, set on a steel pole. That should wake them up!

No, they hit them with a bat or something. Some boxes were knoked clean off the post, some posts were knocked over, and some boxes were still on the post but badly dented. My dad had installed my box about 6 years ago when he lived here and he only does things halfway so a good gust of wind could have knocked it over. It sustained very little damage. So I guess there's a lesson in that: don't anchor your box too firmly so it's the weak point and will come off easily. Then you can just put it back instead of having to straighten or replace it.

My friend was telling me last night that they were having the same problem in their nighborhood in Ben Lomond (near Santa Cruz) a few years back. A neighbor bought a big box, set a small box inside it and filled the space with concrete then set it on a steel pole. When the kids came by and swung at it, the guy swinging broke the bat in half and dislocated his shoulder. I bet he never did that again...

i dont think youd get into trouble if you put the metal on te outide because obivously it has been custome built. that way there would be no liabilty, putting metal on the inside would be similar to tying a shot gun up to a door **** to whoever opened itwould get shot. boobie trapped

There was a kid in my home town that would run over mail boxes with his chevy p/u. One owner I know who reported it meny times.Built his own box put a 4" x 8' steel pipe in the ground filled with cement and rebar, set it back 3 feet more off the road. The block of cement on the base was 6'x6' square and went to base.Boxed the pole in with wood. He made a 1/2" thick steel box with a thin steel door. The kid wraped his truck around the pole, got busted and needed medical attention. The kid got 2 years with 4 years probation, loss of license for 7 years and full restitution for all the smashed mailboxes in the neighborhood. His friend riding with him gave him up for probation.
