2-piece driveshaft. It's in the middle of the 2
driveshafts. It's been a while since I've replaced
one, so I don't remember the cost. I would recommend
replacing the carrier bearing and all 3 u-joints at
the same time (if one's bad, the others are soon to
follow) and grease 'em often.

Just like Tom said the carrier bearing suppots a two piece dive shaft. It is pressed on the forward drive shaft and is attached to cross member with a couple of 3\8 bolts. I just replaced mine this past weekend. It cost me $14.58 plust tax.
To replace it, you will need to remove both drive shafts. Put the shaft with the carrier bearing in a vise, then use a long punch and hammer to remove the bearing from the drive shaft. Becareful not to harm the machined surface on the driveshaft with the punch or hammer. Take the old carrier bearing with you to the parts house so they can match it up. The parts guy said that Ford used three slightly different bearings but one is the most common. I had the most common and you probably will to. Still, taking the old one with may save an extra trip.
Installation of the new is the exact reverse of removing the old. Spend a few minutes to clean the spines on the shafts and apply a thin coat of fresh grease.
Hope this helps and good luck.
