noisy electric fuel pump
hey guys when i bought my truck last summer i had to rplace the fuel pump and i put on an elctric inline pump. i used elctric cause the man i bought it from said that it had worn out 2 in the last few months. andy way somtimes it runs nice an quietly and then all of the sudden it will start making a horible racket and then get quiet again. any suggestions.

Sounds like it might be cavitating. Not getting fuel from the tank easily enough and drawing air. It should be as close to the tank and as low as possible. Also make sure sure supply line is not collapsing.

My 77 f250 has the 19 gallon behind the seat tank. I added a holley electric pump during my rebuild phase. The pump seemed to run hot so i ran a 1\4 inch return line back to the tank. This was not easy as I ran it from a "T" prior to entering the pressure control valve back to a Hole i drilled thru the top of the round fuel sending unit. Thereby , allowing the fuel pump , to circulate the unused fuel back to the tank and hopefully to keep the pump cooler than it had been previously. Holley recommends using a fuel return lne as this is the only way for the pump to cool itself.------------Also , you should install two , clear , fuel filters before and after the fuel pump to keep from circulating any trash that is in the tank!!!Make damn sure that your suction line coming from the tank has No blockage as it will place an extra load on the pump and burn it up eventually......fd
