I just got an email from Ford telling me I can buy another new truck, only this time for thousands less. Here is my response: "Hi Ford, Thanks for the info. As you probably know, I already bought a new truck a few months back at full price. Unless you want to take mine back and give me a new one at the lower price, it looks like I'm S.O.L. But thanks for reminding me how much I overpaid for the truck I have now. Regards,"
I'm not knocking Ford for having the sale, I'm just feeling sick that I spent so much on something that can now be bought new for less than mine is worth used! It's a great deal if you are buying a truck now but it sucks if you already bought one at the higher price! I
I know how you feel. I signed the papers for my Focus wagon on the Friday before the Tuesday when they announced the Family Plan. We had gotten a PIN number from a friend's dad who was a retired Ford worker. We wanted him to get paid for the PIN. First they gave us the wrong plan which cost us $700 extra. Then they came out with the Family plan which would have cut it even more. Then we called the dealership, but they said that it was a done deal. Boy, did I get suckered. And probably the Pin holders won't get paid by Ford to give out the PIN numbers.
This is why I don't buy new vehicles any more. They are so overpriced its sickining. I was looking at a new F150 a few years ago and to get what I wanted it was over 40K. No way in heck will I pay that much for a vehicle. I work very hard for my money and I'll be darned if I throw it away like that. I can buy a lot of gas for my 67 F250 "Gas Hog" for what that new F150's payments would have been. If these guys can discount new vehicles by thousands of dollars then the public has been getting ripped off for a long time!
I agree with you 100% and have thought that way for a long time. I recently located a nice, used 2001 Expedition with low miles and couldn't be happier with the thousands we saved in lieu of a new vehicle.
That being said I also purchased a new '05 F150 with the family plan pricing and 3 different cash back offers. The new truck wasn't even in my radar until I looked at the current pricing levels. My old truck was a 1989 F250 7.3L 170k miles, which I purchased new for over $20,000.00. The cost of the new one was a no-brainer and I must tell you it is like driving a Lincoln Town car instead of a Mack 10 wheel dump.
I do feel bad for people that bought prior to the rebates and family plan. I would feel ripped off (as they do) and very negatively towards Ford. In my case I believe I bought at the right time...only time will tell if I am justified in feeling that way.

Reason: error
I would'int feel too bad if I bought a new truck before the F&F plan and ended up spending a few thousand more, I would be P'oed as all heck if I bought used year old loaded truck with 20K miles to save 7 grand on new, and then seen I coulda bought a lesser optioned out, but basically same configuration truck brand new for the same price!
I understand your contempt. I bought my wife a 200 edge...... just a couple months later we had the post 9/11 zero percent interest sales..... Ford had no interest in giving me a refinance of no interest.
I understand where they were coming from, but it appeared they didnt understand where I was. Ford loyalty.....is a one way street.
Certainly they werent thinking when they sent you that letter.
I just bought a new Freestyle and the 'Family Plan' discount seemed to be about par to what I would have expected to save by haggling. They kept telling me that it's the best deal in history but I think they knocked off a similar amount the last time I bought new. It's not like I buy a new car every year so I could be wrong.
It was a pleasant buying experience though. I picked out the car on-line. Doesn't get much easier than that!
I feel y'all's pain. I bought my '01 F250 SD on Sept. 8, 2001. We all know what happened 3 days later. I paid over 7% interest and a couple weeks later everyone was paying 0%. It kinda sucked but I made it through. I made my last payment a couple weeks ago and my truck is still in great shape with low miles so I'm happy.
