Exchanging tailgate '99-'04 hardware

I need a new tailgate, and was looking at doing most of the R&R stuff myself. I want to buy the tailgate skin, drop it off to be painted, and then switch the hardware over myself. Is this a relatively straight forward job? Are all the parts, handles, badges, bedliner, etc bolt on? Any tricks if it isn't straight forward?
