hey, ive been looking for a posi or a locker for my 1967 ford f-250 dana 60 (perfarably a posi unit) but all the ones i look at have a certain spline count like 30 or 35, how do i know what my spline count is? i found a website that had a bunch of info about the spline count and such and it said my dana 60 for a 67 f-250 was a 29 and i cant find any posis for a 29 spline, heres the site if you wanna check it out maybe you can help me, any of you guys have posis in your trucks? whered you get them at? thanks, andy. http://www.taperformance.com/dana.htm oh yeah and i also noticed on that website under dana 60 dodge and plymouth cars with hemis had the same spline count as my truck could i just buy a posi for one of these cars or would it still have to be 29 spline? sorry i dont really know much about this stuff yet, thanks.

The 29 spline is for the pinion to yoke. All of the Dana 60's i've run across, 68 to 72 has 16 spline axles. For a limited or posi unit the side gear (axle) spline count would have to match.

ok yeah i see about everybody with a 68-73 has a 16 count or converted to 30, but what about my 1967 is it the same? arrrg i have no idea how something can be so confusing i could have found one and installed it by the time i figure out what my spline count is lol ive been tryin to find one for my truck for months now im thinking about just getting a whole new dana 60!!! lol maybe you guys can help, thanks, andy.
Well the only way you can be sure what you go is to take out one of your axle shafts and count the splines, its extremely easy!. if you dont have hubcaps, then you dont even have to take the wheel off (but you should jack up the side you are removing so the oil wont leak out when you pull the shaft. ) Undo the eight 5/8's bolts and tap the side of the flange with a hammer to break the gasket loose, then just slide it out and count the splines. You'll most likely have 16 spline shafts.
When you put the shaft back on, use RTV or gasket sealer on the flange then tighten the bolts to 30 ftlbs ( i think, not sure if thats the right torque)
Sounds like your looking for a Detroit EZ-Locker unit or something similar, the one I was looking at installed in a open rear but had 30 spline for the axles. Can't thing of the other unit at the moment.
