I was wondering what size tire I can run on the front of a non lifted F-100 (79) 2wd.
Also, what are some methods of lifting the front end. I would like to make a small suspension lift, like 2 or 3 inches. Can I swap to 3/4 ton springs to gain some height.
I need to replace my rear leafs and will probably get lift springs in the rear. any help would be great.
i'm running 235's, but you might fit 31's on there stock..
as for lifting it, a new set of heavy duty springs will lift a sagged truck somewhat, but to get more lift, you'll have to use pre runner kit, otherwise it will though your alignment outta wack to the point it can't be adjusted.
A buddy of mine wanted to do the same thing, but on his Chevy. the only information i can give you is to buy a pre-runner kit. He was very impressed with the outcome. You cant really tell that it is a 2wd pickup unless you look at the front-end.
I put new heavy duty springs in my 2wd and it only lifted it up an inch or two, not as much as I had expected. Check out the pics in the gallery to see the before and after. You can flip your i-beams?? I've never heard of that..hmmmm.
I did some computer graphics on a picture i took of my ibeams and flipped it digitally, check this out, it would give you a 5-6" lift over stock!! Are the angles of your kingpins going to be all out of whack or would they stay the same??? The pictures are in my gallery, please look and tell me what you think!!
I had a '79 F100 w/ 15 X 8 rims and 31 10.50 tires. The supsension was worn out. The tires would rub if they were turned and I hit a bump of some sort. Keep in mind with tires that big that if you have a significant load in the truck it may sag it down far enough to rub the tires. Happened to me..I was moving and after I had everything loaded up I realized that the sidewalls were touching the fender whil the truck was just sitting there! Had to buy coil over shocks and install them before I left town that day.
