steering column length (darksider)

When we talk about suitable donor steering columns for 53-56s being 30 to 32 inches in length - from where to where is that 30 - 32 inch measurment being taken?

Thanks,

hey cuz...

here's the poop

I bought a 30" but with header clearance I needed a 32" had to build an extension for it.... so look at your steering linkage clearances before you order... or scrounge or whatever... the guys at IDIDIT.com are really helpful..

I would think that if you aren't sure, you're better off buying a shorter column, since it's easier to add a piece of double D shaft to make it longer than any vice versa option.

I would think that YOUR steering column should be about 2" long.
That way you head would be below the vision of all but a very few.

Again, just my thoughts.

I used a 32" Ididit with a Toyota steering box and had to only join with the u-joint...didnt need and shafts inbetween. Sits fairly well with the big cushioned bench seat but I'm gonna replace the bench with some 97 GP buckets.....dont know what kind of changes I'm in for, but I'm sure I can fab up some seat brackets to line it up.

Good luck with your install. Ed

Nathan,

Glad to see someone caught that self-effacing play on words. Guess it was too cerebral for Penn Dick.

(That'll keep PD busy with his Funk & Wagnal for a while)......
