All 4.2's ping?
I have a ’05 XL 4.2 with an AOD and AC. Under a slight load it will just barley start to ping. Just slightly. Sounds like crap and is embarrassing to drive! I want to take it in but there are no service loaners where I am at and I don’t have another vehicle. So I thought I would check to see if it’s just my truck or all 4.2’s and I tested the same ’05 XL at my local dealer. Same thing as mine!!!

4X2 RegCab XL is available with a 4.2 V6 with 4-speed Automatic Overdrive. Has it pinged since day one? I bet a reflash would help it, that seems to be the cure-all for most of these things. Good luck!

when he says AOD he probably just means a automatic overdrive transmission. so in a sense I guess you could say that we all have a aod

Yeah I don't know the trany model. hehe Says its an OD transmission so thats what I call it. 
It didn't seem to ping when I got it. Now when I say its pinging its just barly starting to ping. Like a 1/4 ping. Just anough to anoy me.
Its going in next week.
