Well first off they will take care of voiding your warranty or at least documentating that the vehicle is no longer completely OEM spec'ed so when some drivetrain item fails that will have an out. Seriously though I would imagine about 200 bucks. How big of a change did you make? I think you are better off spending 339.00 on the diablosport programmer and getting the extra features like a little more horsepower and better shift programming. I did notice on my truck with a tire change size that the torque convertor sometimes will not lock up in 4th gear until I let off the gas a little then ease back in. I was told this is because the speed sensor and engine RPM do not agree within X amount of percent preventing lockup not sure if this is fact or fiction. I don't think some people would even notice this but the diablosport fixed this.
Hi,
Doe anyone know about what a dealer would charge to reprogram for a different tire size so the speedo and odometer report correctly?
Gary
Depends how "mod friendly" the dealer is. My local dealer sells trucks with 20" wheels, and suspension lifts or drops, and they are still under warranty.
I seem to remember some people have gone to dealers for this, and they were charged 1/2 hr's worth of labor, probably about $50.
Hi,
I am actually considering going from 265/70R17s to 275/55R17s to pick up a bit more power for towing until I can afford a SuperDuty. I think that would provide about a 9% effective change in gear ratio so it would be nice to get the speedo and odometer corrected.
I've read where others get it done for around $70 if you're electronically controlled. 1997 and 1998 models are gear driven and can be changed with a $20 gear swap. Mine is off by 10% so figuring the difference is very easy and doesn't really affect my driving mentality until I'm doing 70+ mph on the open highways. I've never had the dealer bust my hump for having bigger tires either. In fact many of the guys in the shop area comment on how much better my truck looks than the stock 4x4's.
