I don't think so. I hear all the time about $150 trucks and such, but they usually require complete rebuilding and come in a basket. Like you, I live in CA and find that many 50+ year-old trucks have pretty good sheet metal here. Mine did. If that is so, you saved that much on patch panels and body work. 57's are way cool! Check out the user galleries. There are some really sweet 57's. ("57_Ford" has one).
I think you'll be fine, I paid $2k for my project to start and didn't get much, but then agian maybe I got ripped ??????
OH WELL can only go forward from here

big window or small? If it is as rust free as you say it is, then it was well worth it. $2000 covers about what I had in rust free front sheet metal for mine if that gives you an idea..... -4speed

Small window...I really is rust free...which is surprising. Our cars get a little bit of cancer out here, but nothing too serious.
I am missing the tailgate (it's a stepside), which I'm starting to realize is going to be a little expensive.
Don't think about what you paid for it - you didn't buy it to make money.
I am struggling with a supposedly "rust free california" truck I bought off Ebay for $600. The truck was local to Sacramento. I am having to replace the right door pillar, and repair three other spots. It is a major blow for someone not skilled in replacing metal panels.
btw, there is a northern and a southern regional chapter for california. You might join them and get local help with your questions and problems. Both have a forum on this website.
Welcome dood! I found that you need be happy with the truck and have goals on what you'd like to do to the truck (that always changes). Don't look at the price, because you'll always find a better truck for cheaper or a worst shape truck for more. Focus on what you can do with the truck and go for it and have fun driving it.
