I bought the ATSG manual on e-bay lastnight. I decided to start with the AOD out of convienence - I have an extra one and I have an idea of what the problem "might" be. Reverse is out and binds. I've read up online and sounds like the sprag might be broken. My plan is to read the manual and I have a big table that I can devote to doing the work. I'll pull it apart and see what is what for starters and just go slow.
I'm looking at it kind of like gambling - I'll spend as much as I feel the entertainment is worth and I think big going in, but if I start to tank I just walk away. The manual is new and under $20 including delivery and the extra tranny doesn't owe me anything. Supposedly the AOD isn't too tough either and I've had a couple people boltering my confidence. We'll see how it goes
naw the AOD really isn't a tough one to rebuild (now if someone asks you to rebuild a 440t4 gm trans run, and I mean run like the wind as far as you can)
Right now I'm finishing up putting a 4 barrel carb and a header on my 300 I-6 in my '85 F-250. Also thinking about replacing the rear leaf springs, shock absorbers, brakes, tie rod ends
finished up putting a 4" lift on my f250.it sets up there now .hood is about eye level and thats with 35"s. will install my new intake and valve covers this weekend.still looking for another front axle for it, 78 or 79 will do if anyone knows of one around
Hey Tucker, here before too long, the red crew cab with red flatbed and Cummins motor will be rolling through your area more often, after I get done tinkering with it, and maybe moving some of my stuff up to my parents, my sister will be running it. She gets down through there every so often hauling hay. You'll have to keep an eye out for it, it also has a red junk box at the front of the flatbed.
Working with the machinist to get my 292 block ready to build. Gotta take my rods, flywheel, etc. down for balancing tomorrow. Still need to order a cam and parts for the heads. Oh yeah, gotta remember to shell out alot a money too - can't forget that!
I'll have to look for it Roger, or she will have to look for me. You can't miss my truck in the sun, the ice-pearl I put in it....it makes is glisten like crazy. You'll probably always see it with a brown 83 cutlass behind it with the air cleaner thru the hood, my buddy & I don't go too far without each other, plus I have to be there, its a GM so its gonna break down.
id like to put a new or diff muffler on my 5.4..the only problem is im not sure on how to do it....but i dont want to take it somewhere and spend hundreds of dollars on it....i want a nice sounding muffler that when its at idle it sounds nice but not loud and when you get on gas it sounds kool....what can i do to get a nice sounding exhaust..id love to do this myself but not sure if i could do it with out screwing something up some where...
Flowmaster, Dynamax, both have good sound. I put a dynamax on my old 1/2ton I had, it it wasn't bad at highway speeds, but really sounded nice at idle. Of course, I had taken the cat off due to failure at the same time... but either way, one of those mufflers over stock will sound better. Ford (or any OEM for that matter) mufflers are not known for the best flow, so you may notice a few other improvements as well... It all depends what you have for equipment and experience, You can take it off if you are careful with a torch, oterwise, even a grinder can be used to cut the pipe carefully so you can reuse your original pipes.
