Well I have an 1984 F-250 4x4 that need a cab swap. I have a 1985 F-150 for the parts truck. Right now the parts truck runs better then the 4x4. figures. I am trying to figure a way to swap cabs between the two trucks. the 4x4 cab is usable all holes in the floor boards have been replaced but I like the cab on the 1985 better. the 1985 has a very good 351w 4bbl and a rebuilt C6 tranny. I will not know what to do with when I get the cabs swaped. any ideas
I have projects I should be working on, like reroofing the back part of the house but it's too hot or too wet so that is on hold. Then I have been measuring, and researching my planned rear suspension change on the race truck so I have projects for over the winter to go along with building a new tranny, and refreashing the engine. I also probably should go pull hte rear tires off, and do some more cutting, and shaping on them. I need to get out of town, and get a decent shop built so I can work in dry conditions instead of in the back yard in rain, snow etc.

I have a friend who is getting a free Mustang GT minus the engine and tranny, and I told him about this and said he wanted to know what you were looking to get out of it. He wanted to know miles on the 351W, if/when it'd been rebuilt, stuff like that. Lemme know, he'd definately be interested.
mine used to run me sideways on the highway, got on it once and it turned totally around, had me pointing the wrong way on a four lane... it got in the high teens if I recall.
You guys are gonna flip, but I was originally trying to convince him that he needed to put a 460 into it. But...unfortunately he's smart enough NOT to do that. He wanted a 302 to drop in it and eventually go 351W, but since there's the chance of getting a 351W, especially being local (Centerville), to start with he would like it. Plus, no FI so it'd be just bolting the thing in.
Is he going to have issues with hood clearance? Also, Roger you said that he needed to have a different oil pan to drop it into the car, and that you had one?
I have an oil pan for the 302, not the Windsor. No hood clearance troubles at all, just exhaust clearance issues. Check with places like Jegs, they had one listed for $131, part #397-M-6675-A58, that comes with sump and dipstick. I reworked a set of 302 headers to work, but there are some made for the application. The only ones available back when I did it were $250 comp style, way more than I needed for a stock motor. The problems I ran into using stock manifolds was that the steering shaft hit, and there isn't enough material to grind away to work. When I got the 302 headers, the driver's side worked fine, but the passenger side hit the frame rail, so I shortened the tubes 1" and that worked out ok. You will need a 302 air cleaner from a fox body to clear, the truck air cleaners are taller. the filter is only about 1 1/2" thick factory. Otherwise, everything bolts from there.
I'm getting ready to start reading up on an AOD tranny rebuilt. Nothing fancy - just a stock rebuild with maybe an update or two to make it a little more durable. I'm getting an ATSG manual to read about 50 times and maybe a DVD. Then I'm going to work on the one out of my parts truck and swap it into my DD. If I can make it work then I'll rebuild a spare... but it'll probably end up in another truck. ( I CAN'T stay off e-bay. I always want to buy just one more truck!)
Well still getting the race truck ready for this coming season. I have the rear suspension and rear end done now, and currently putting the engine back together after getting all the parts and the machine shop work done now just have to get on it.
And on the F250 did the Kwik filter mod, CCV, and will be doing the prepump fuel line modification (aka the hutch mod) and filter this weekend.

If you haven't ever torn into a auto box before, you would be well served to get either a TH350 or C6 to go through first to get a good idea what is going on in there. The TH350 is one of the easiest to work on, and was what my tech school used as a training trans. The C6 is very similar in build. There are training videos for rebuilding 350's likely to be one for C6's as well, can't answer on AOD's though.
