Just ordered my Rebuild Kit
Well I finally broke down and just bought my engine rebuild kit. My truck has been smoking so bad lately that I just came home aggravated and went online and bought it out of pure frustration. I had already looked into them but was waiting to pay cash rather then throwing it on the credit card. I was hoping my engine would last till spring, but its not looking good. The kit included:
Hastings Rings
Federal Mogul recessed head Piston
Federal Mogul Rod Brgs
Federal Mogul Main Brgs
Federal Mogul Cam Brgs
Melling Oil Pump
Federal Mogul Camshaft
Federal Mogul Lifters
Melling Timing Components
Pioneer Frost Plugs
Victor Gaskets
And I added the following upgrades:
Clevite Bearings $5.00
Intake Gasket $25.46
Moly Rings $12.00
High Volume oil Pump $17.78
Edelbrock Timing set $36.42
The whole thing including shipping was $384.43. Now I just ahve to put it all together. I just posted this thinking it may be useful to someone thinking of rebuilding.

It would have made more sense if I put what engine I had ordered the kit for huh? It was the 351M. I ordered it directly online a Northern Auto Parts's site. www.naparts.com

Just curious...
Have you already had your clearances checked? In other words, are you sure your crank doesn't need to be re-ground, or your cylinder bored?
years ago I bough the kit then disassembled and checked. When I was done I needed different over-sized bearings.

Just ordered my Rebuild Kit
After getting it all apart I found out that it had been recently rebuilt, probably within the last 3 or 4 years. My original problem was in the heads, but I figured I'd rebuild the whole thing and have it bored 0.030 over. Little did I know this was already done. I could have just replaced the heads and been done with it. But i figured now I'll freshen it up again while its all apart and then slap a fresh coat of paint on it. This way I wont regret it later. All the cylinders are clean and look like they were just machined. All thats left now is to have my heads done and buy a new carb. I'm having trouble finding a good machine shop around here though. I should be running pretty good in a few weeks.
