Tune up

I am going to be doing a tune up on my 94 F-150 flareside 5.0. I was thinking new spark plugs, air filter, coolant, distributor cap, rotor, pcv valve, plug wires. I also wanted to flush out my automatic tranny fluid. How do i drain the tranny fluid and put new fluid in? I know that i have to put regular Dextron 3 fluid in. Also, whats a good spark plug to use and what gap?

Thank You

motorcraft plugs gap in manual. you need to drain convertor and put new filter in. do you have a repair manual? if not get one before you start. i do not think you use dextron 3 for a 94.

Your list for the tuneup is the same as mine, except I'm going to change the trans filter, install a Transgo basic shift kit, and install a drain plug. I also changed the serpentine belt. Working on this truck is SOOO much easier than my cars.

For the ATF, check the owner's manual. My 95 has an E4OD, which requires Mercon (usually crosslisted with Dexron III). It said anything with Mercon V and Ford type F was the wrong fluid. Plain Dex3 / Mercon. Just check the manual first and be sure.

You should have a sticker under hood that tells you, among other things what to gap plugs at. It probably be different than what manual says. Use info on hood sticker instead of in manual.

There should be drain plug on front(engine)side of torque converter to drain it.

How do you get to the converter without pulling the tranny?

drain is actually covered by a rubber plug on the bottom of convertor. than you have to tap starter, with fuel fuse out, until you line up drain plug.

and again, GO OUT AND BUY A MANUAL SO YOU CAN LOOK STUFF UP.

you refill trough dipstick.

have you worked on vehicles in the past?

usually you can see the dipstick behind the motor on the left hand side. It is a bigger tube than the oil dipstick.
