I have almost decided, with both GM and Ford having new models for the '07 model year to sit back, wait and see what shakes out. If I like the new and it appears to be trouble free, go new, if I don't like it, buy used.
Personally, I feel it is "do or die time" at GM and they know it. I think they are deciding to bar no holds and take command of every segment they can and the diesel truck market is a huge share and money maker for them. I hope Ford steps to the plate with their diesel program. Personally, I feel the Ford small block has taken a back seat to GM for over a decade.
You said nothing "official", but do you have a link to rumors??
Sorry, I jumped from one thought to another in my mind without typing it.
The diesels are fine, but the small block gas engines is what my last statement is refering to. Not saying that the Ford small block gas engines are bad at all, they are good engines, but GM has had slightly more power and a lot better milage out of those engines. I have not driven the new 3 valve engine in the current F-150 though.
I get 16-17 MPG on my old 150. 130,000 miles an not a lick off trouble. I think Ford has a great reputation for longevity. Thats why people are loyal to Fords.

If everything at GM were doing as well as their diesel program they wouldn't be in the mess they are in.
BigF350- Your 7.3 has exhaust brake capabilities as well. I've heard that you couldn't put them on the 6.0L though because of the VVTurbo, is that true?

Yes, because I have a stick it is ok. However, I don't believe it was ever marketed as "exhaust brake compatible".
And being exhaust brake compatible with an Auto is pretty impressive in my book.
Tim what is with the filter? Or is someone going around and randomly erasing words from posts???? I'm getting angry with it. Why would the word "exhaust" be deleted from my post? I have had "diesel" and other words deleted from posts before...why?
BigF350, can you explain why an auto can't use an exhaust brake?
I can't recall exactly how it happens, but I know that they can damage to the torque convertor and the clutch packs.
Even with a stick you put extra pressure on the pistons, valves, turbo and cylinder walls, pressure that wasn't initially designed for with the 7.3l.
Not to say it cannot survive like that, but it wasn't designed for use with an exhaust brake (and neither was the 6.0l)
