I have a '79 F-250 with a 400 in it presently which is in need of re-build,I have the opption of converting to a Mitsubishi 6DS70A diesel
out of a junked late 70's ford,it is complete with trans etc.I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this engine, and if this engine has any kind of reputation-good or bad.

I assume that you would like to put the diesel in your f250. You can probably make it fit but then your troubles begin. Your frame is not designed to take the torque or, more importantly, the vibration that a diesel puts out. This is the reason you are not seeing the new Powerstroke V6 in any truck yet. The frames can't take the stress.
Given the horrendous abuse the 1970s F250s will take I wouldn't have any misgivings about stuffing anything I could fit under the hood.Use your judgement on mounting the thing to isolate vibes, and keep an eye on the frame. If it does crack, I'd just slice up a donor frame and box the rails. If I had the diesel to play with I'd install it with no hesitation.
Diesel engines do make alot of vibration. Some depending on flywheel size. It can be dampened with a bigger flywheel but that also makes for slower acceleration. You can try motor mounts that will dampen the vibration. Stress on the frame is not the only thing. The cab is attached to the frame and your in the cab. Vibration is likely to be felt throught the entire truck.
Also you have a ford truck and your putting a mitsubishi engine in it. I personally would look for a ford. But if you use the Mitsu keep in mind some things may not work as they should. Foreign auto makes don't do everything like we americans do.
I've seen 3208 cats in 1970's F-250s and F-350s a heck of a lot bigger and torqier than any little mitsu motor. I would trust the frame in any of my 70s trucks over the F-350 frame in my 1997 powerstroke crewcab dually.
go for it, if its in a ford now, it should be a piece of cake.
have your fuel tanks coated inside first, the zinc in the galvinized coating will mess up your injectors.
