Locking Gas Cap
I would like to use a locking gas cap on my Super Duty F250 (5.4 engine) but the Ford parts dept. advised that no locking caps are available or even listed for my truck. My manual is explicit with the warning improper gas caps could cause much damage and void the warranty. Both Stant and Fram (one of which surely makes caps for Ford) list caps for Ford Super Duties up through the year 2004 (cross references probably not updated as no 2005 models were mentioned). Upon looking at both companies caps made for the 2004 Super Duty, it was apparent that the threads on the caps differed from each other and neither looked at all like the Ford stock unit (however, both seemed to fit the Ford filler tube fine).
So, any suggestions at all as to how to use an after-market locking gas cap and still be in compliance with Ford's requirements? My dealer seems clueless on this question. Thanks.
