I've got the itch.... help?
Hey there all! I was a GM owner in a previous life, I've had 4 new GMC trucks, and now I've been looking on this side of the fence, so help the newbie out here. I've been searching but I wanted a few questions answered before I buy.
1. Can towcommand be added to a F-250/350 cost effectively? From what I read it can be added but at what cost?
2. what is the big diff between the 250 and 350 other than springs/axles?
which has better resale value?
3. Is the current employee deal + the $2500 rebate make it worth getting a 2005 model or will the 2006's be just as good in a few months?
4. does anyone know anything about the 2007 models?
5. I'm planning on getting this configuration - so any help in finding one would be great!
F250/350 crewcab with the 6.0 diesel and auto trans. XLT sport package or Lariat package. towcommand & hitch, heated seats would be nice, limited slip would also be nice. rear stabilizer bar would be nice, for colors I'm thinking white, blue, or stone metallic.
Thanks for all your help!
Stefan
As for #1 - it sounds like Tow command can be added, but does anyone know the specifics?
#2 - sounds like the 350 is the way to go then? Is the unloaded ride as good as the 250? (i'm coming from a 2500HD GMC which is a little bouncy in the rear)
#3 - how long until the 06's have rebates again? I'm wondering if when the 07's come out the 06's will be given away??
#4 - that looks pretty interesting - I'd like to see what the real one looks line.
Is there any risk in buying a truck that has been sitting on the lot for a year? There was some rust on the exhaust/frame... as I live in MN and we use salt here.
There is 3 identical trucks at a local dealer that are almost perfect, but no tow command, so i'm thinking they might be interested in selling them?
The other thing I want to know is with the family plan does the dealer still make much money or is only the holdback what they get? I can't see how Ford would force their dealers to make less on trucks/cars because they want to sell ?? I know there must be volume bonuses, but?? anyone care to spill the beans on this? I'm not out to steal the truck, but I want to know that the dealer is making a fair profit and I'm getting the best deal I can get... I want the dealer there for me in the future when I take it in for service. Also - I am a commercial buyer, so are there any additional incentives for commercial truck buyer? GM always has the Home Depot $500 or a Dewalt tool kit or racks/bins type of deal. What does Ford offer?
My comments would be:
1. Go to Ford.com and do a build your own on the website it will tell you what each option is going to cost. Tow Boss is what you want. But this is an order item, there are few in stock.
2. Get the F350, for the difference you get a better truck with more capacity, especially with the bigger diesel, larger cab, the F250 has a smaller box capacity.
3. Negotiate on a truck on the lot with what you want, you should be able to get 10,000 off of list easy in this environment. Especially if you go for a 2005. A 2006 will be more $. Remember a 2007 will have new stuff so teething problems.
4. I would not wait for the 6.4 L with twin turbos. To much new stuff. Just make sure your 2005 is a late build date and check the VIN on the web for all recalls before signing paper. The dealer should also print you an "oasis" report.
5. See my signature, my truck is what you want but its all silver. I have 3.73 LS rear ends. (I would go for 4.10s if you can get one off the lot.) Mine also has full leather, heated seats, power rear slider and sun roof. It is the nicest truck I have ever driven and I have driven in new Peterbuilt 18 wheelers. With 3.73s, I get 15 - 16 MPG city, 20 Highway, with a current hand calc Mileage of 17.03 MPG over 9600 Kilometers. Not a single problem. I REALLY like my truck, you will too. Go for it if you can. :-)
