Can anyone tell me basically what is involved with doing a SAS. I know the 78 pr 79 F-150 should bolt to my 96's frame, but i would like to know pretty much all the steps and tools involved with doing a SAS.
THanks,
Will
Jeesh, it's starting to sound like Pirate over here. Remember guys, we all started out not knowing a whole lot either.
Chris
yea but do you realize how easy it is to get something if you googled it? maybe if some of these folks put a little but of time into it (like i have done and many others) they will get their answer, its not a very complicated question
Yeah I understand the need to search first, but some folks may not have much luck due to not entering the correct info in the search box. Lord knows that is my problem when I try the searches. I just wanted to point out that we play nice on this site. Before I go off and get ready to type something I just think of Ho and how he got banned and I usually tone my response down some. On the plus side, I find lots of cool stuff that has no bearing on what I was looking for.
Jeesh, now I am starting to sound like my father...."you guys better play nice or I turn this car around"
I am new here, and belong to several other forums, I was interested in the SAS swap too, and did a search (cause I know everyone tells the new guy to search first), I came up with 363 results, and 25 pages worth of threads, most of the threads didn't seem to have anything more then a SAS swap suggestion in them. Sometimes the search function isn't the most helpful. I had most of my questions awnsered from the link that ramboss429 posted, thanks ramboss429
No problem, don't be scared, you can still ask questions around here. Everyone gets mad once a week when the same exact questions keep getting asked, just word it like this. "I'm preparing for a SAS, and was looking for some help before I dig in."
When I was digging up stuff on SAS I went through and looked through probably 70 threads. Try bumping the number of replies up to like a 5 reply minimum, and limit ONLY to the Offroad forum.
There is ALOT of info on the SAS on the net, I did the swap without knowing about this site or the "other" bronco site. The swap is simple, but you need a welder.
You have to decide if you want to use TTB springs or solid axle spring. With TTB springs you need to fab up lower mounts to bolt to the axle, for Solid axle springs you really should swap out the coil buckets for 78/79 ones and use F250 shock towers. (if i were to do it again i'd go this route).
You will need to rework, or fabricate radius arm mounts, if reworking the faces need to be cut and pushed back about 20deg. You will need to fabricate a tracbar bracket that will keep the trac-bar paralle to the tie-rod.
And for the tie rod the 78/79 one is too long but one off a early 90's F350 fits just fine
