'79 Heater Core

First of all, I'm new to this site.
Cool website! My dad gave me his 1979 F100 Pickup. The only problem is the heater core needs to be replaced. My question is how do you replace it?
I have a Mustang GT that we replaced the heater core in it....it was located behind the dash board.
How do I get to the heater core in the truck?
Any help would be greatly apprecitated!

Its way easier than a Mustang. Remove the hoses .Under the hood there are 2 or 3 nuts on the fire wall to remove and unplug the blower motor while you are there. Go under the dash and remove the bolts on the sides of the dash. You may need to drop the steering column if you don't have enough room. Next pull the heater case toward the dash at this time you will see if any thing else needs to be removed. Next just pull the heater case out from under the dash. Very simple I may have skipped a few steps but its bin a while since I have done one. But I am positive you will have no problems. I am sure someone else will jump in with what I left out.

Don't forget to disconnect the control cables on the heater housing under the dash.

WAIT, one question. DO YOU HAVE FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING? It makes a difference. If you do there is a procedure on this site in the tech articles section. The procedure is direct out of the factory service manual.

Nope, no A/C. Thankfully the back window does slide.

I found that taking the glove box out helped significantly. It was quite an easy job, even for a novice like me! And the core was pretty cheap as well.

I think a core costs about $15-$20 at Autozone.

I did this last year and you should take the glove box out and I believe the right side vent cover but I stand to be corrected on that

What I did was remove two nuts closet to the right hadn side of the truck and reef and chuck on the heater housing until I figured there was another nut directly behind the intake. Took that out and pop.

However, it would be handy to have help putting it back up because its a tight fit and its easy to rip up the insulation. Not really that bad.
