what will be the easiest way to change it from full time to part time, i dont want to break the bank but id much rather it be part time, any sugestions, its a 78 bronco custom, i have a 78 f-150 that has part time, the truck is totaled and i could use parts from it, any suggestions will be nice, thanks

you should also install manual hubs on the front if you dont already have them. but if you already do then it wouldnt be full time 4wd anyway. yes the tcase would be turning the front ds but not moving the font end at all. i would definatly swap cases

I have a 79 Full time NP203 like you, you would have to get the front hub conversion kit, then get manule locking hubs. They do sell a part time kit for it, That replaces the shaft and takes out the differintial in the T case, converting it to part time. If you do this, then you would have this pattern to shift through, 4L 2L N 2H 4H. It would be easyer to swap out t cases if you have the NP205 part time t case in your wrecked truck. You could do that and swap out the front shaft from the truck, but you'd have to get a new rear shaft, because yours on either truck will not fit anymore. Swapping cases will give you this pattern to shift through 4L n 2H 4H, You just loose 2L, which isn't a big deal.

Swap cases if you have the 205 and front shaft, and then just find a rear shaft. This is prolly the easyest route, which I will be doing when I get new shafts.(oh you need new shafts, because there is a 10" differecne in the 2 cases)

Good luck.

I think MBBFord touched on it, but I want to make sure as he called it a Front hub conversion kit. You can swap the hubs to manual, but if you keep the 203 you need to install the full time to part time conversion kit. The NP203 uses a center differential that switches power from front to back. What will happen is you unlock the hubs and when it switches to the front you go no where. You would think it would just switch back, but it dose not. Pull your front drive shaft and you will see what I mean. Just remember you will need to use the E brake and the trans will not keep it from rolling.

or you can swap to the NP205. You will lose a little bit of low range, BUT the 205 is tougher.
