hey guys i just got a stackkit and i plan on straight piping my truck how loud are they i mean i cut the exhaust already right behind the cat is it louder than that i kinda hope it is lol i got a few neighbors i wanna ***** off lol
oh man....will you ever **** off the neighbors. my straight piped stacks are killer. funny thing is, the gal i'm prolly gonna marry, her words "its loud, but not loud enough" i LOVE it! i told her "sweetheart, i've done ALL i can to make them as loud as i can. theres nothing more for me to do" luckily, she understands but yeah, straight pipe them. you can always add in a muffler later.
another good one "if i get a truck like yours, but automatic, will it still be as loud" gotta love that gal
I'd really like to get some stacks, maybe from Black Cloud Diesel. My only concern is that the heat from the stack(s) may discolor the paint on the cab.
oooohhh...don't they ever?? you can run the RPM up close to 3K and they're SCREAMIN! and on the other end. hit 4th gear doin about 30 and they are just throbbin really low like. windows down, its deafening, but withthem up, its not all that bad. and thats with a regular cab. boy am i glad my gal likes them....its funny, she loves them, my mom thinks they look good, but my dad doesn't like them too much. whatever....
the heat is generally localized to the pipe itself, you can't touch them when they are hot, but it SHOULDN'T discolor the paint. unless you blow sooty black water all over your truck likei did....ouch.
RedStroker6 how exactly did u run ur stacks on ur truck, im looking at two 94 PSD one is 3/4 ton ext cab flatbed 5 spd and the other is a 1 ton single wheel crew cab 5 spd , then the guy also has a old Pool Services pickup that is a 97 PSD ext cab 3/4 ton 5 spd just wondering how u ran ur stacks because im going to be running 6" or bigger stacks and straits too. im up close to Abilene Texas also. Thanks Lance
well, going from front to back: started with a 3''-4'' Dowmpipe frlom Dale at TYMAR performance. ravn 4'' pipe to a 90* elbow up through the bed, a 'Y' Splitter from Berubes Truck supply (thanks to Cat_man for that link), then fromt he ends of the slippter, a 90* off to the passenger side, a spacer pipe to the driver side and another 90*. up till that points, its all been 4'' pipe. on top of the last 90*s, i used 4-5' reducers (TruckPro truck supply). into the reducers, i stuck about 28 inches of mitre-cut stacks i pulled of a rig at a truck boneyard for 30$. i used band clamps for all connections, as it make it easier. i still haven't gotten pics from under the truck, but you get the general idea. heres some of the set-up...i'll have captions on it eventually explaining stuff. had to make another webshots account.... http://community.webshots.com/album/395876444
good luck, nice to see more texas folk on here. oh, if i had to pick, i'd go with the '97, depending on the condition
You can't make a turbo diesel LOUD. You can change the exhaust tune, but it will not be LOUD. When I installed my 4" exhaust, I put the down pipe only on and took it through the neighbor hood. Not LOUD at all. You know, these are always going to be a personal opinion type of answers. It is no where near a straight piped gasser.
i wasn't worried about it being to loud and i certainly am not thinikin about putting a muffler on those are for gassers , hopefully i will get my down pipe by next week and do it all sat i cann't wait
thanks for all the posts guys

id say different, i have a friend that had dual 5" strait stacks on his 01 Ford 1 ton and it did make it louder and lots of smoke too, but then again he had a chip and custom built a 5 way resistor switch u hooked up under the cover that said PSD on it, all it did was give it more fuel, then the other day heard a new dodge with no stacks at all just strait pipe and he hammered on it as a 18 wheeler was leaving the redlight and u couldnt even hear the big truck and he had straits stacks on it and u tell me a new dodge or ford with or without stacks aint loud well both have been louder than a big truck from take offs too. but i just love the way stacks look on pickups and i have seen as big as 7" dual stacks on pickups around here ford or a dodge and they do sound alot better and louder too. just thought id add that to this thing too lol. Lance
well RedStroker i upgraded i got a 97 Ford F250 ext cab Powerstroke ZF 5 spd, white, with alittle over 200k miles on it, got a head ache rack on it already, just put all my antennas on it, then thought about running 4" dual turn out stacks on it straits but put a piece of square tubing in the bed and run a 90 elbow down and then a piece of flex hose being this is a work truck out on a drilling rig. but i got a question what is the stock exhaust pipe size and what would it do if i cut the muffler out just wondering and where did u get that down pipe and so on, got another question how do u get rid of the square pipe behind the rear axle that was one of fords bright ideas lol other than putting stacks on it . well ill post all about my pickup later thanks Lance
