1986 351w in my 1978 f100(auto tranny). what vacuum lines are the bare minimum for the engine to run good? I know I need a line for the distributor, but what other lines do I need? the motor has about 20 lines running all over it that must have been for the bronco, but i don't see any need for them in my truck. can I just plug them off at the intake to make the engine look cleaner? thanks again, Ben
You need the one line you mentioned from a ported vacuum source to the distributor.
You need another ported vacuum source running to the thermal vacuum switch mounted in the coolant passage, and then to the egr valve.
You need to run the large line from the top of the carb to the charcoal canister.
You need a vacuum line for your PCV valve
See if your PCV valve line has a tee connection for a smaller line. If so, you can run this to the charcoal canister for purging.
You need a vacuum line running to the aircleaner and then to the snorkel for the flapper valve in the snorkel.
You need the one for the power brakes.
You need another for an automatic tranny.
You need another if your heating/air cond requires it.
Probably something I missed elsewhere.
