Talking matching numbers

My '38 1/2 ton has the same no's on the frame and the clutch hs'g, I understand that is good for originality! The engine itself looks to be earlier cuz the hoses come in at the frt and it's 21 studs. There are stamped no's in the valve covers of 68-6049-B & 68-6050-B which seem to indicate a '36 motor from the code charts. I've just recently seen some other charts that mention Ford switched from 21 to 24 studs during the '38 model year. It probably doesn't matter since it all works good and I plan to keep it as original as possible. Any thoughts or similar experiences?? Thks~JH

JH, one of my '46's still had it's original 3 spd in it when I got, although with a later model flathead 6 cylinder. The numbers on the frame and on the bellhousing both match. I have switched to a flathead V8 and heavy duty 3 spd, but will still keep the truck's original trans, after all, it is unusual for parts like that to match after 60 or so years.
