Hi guys, havent logged on in a while, missed you all dearly,I love old fords and b-s ing about them.Anyways my buddy at the local junk yard has a nice set of springs off of the rear of a highboy, not sure what year, but they are 2 1/4'' wide. I have a 78 3/4 ton light duty. The springs I have are 3'' wide and are getting real weak, would like to upgrade to a beefy spring but is it possible.I priced pro comp springs with an overload and its 198.00 for both out of oreillys magazine, but if I can get away with using those I would sure do it.
Tell me what your opinions are thankyou kindly
Hey bigbrownie......Those leaf springs you are referring to could be off a early 77 and older highboy. I have a early 77 with that size spring. Im not sure if they would work on your 78. I removed mine and took them to a spring shop to be reworked. I had them install a few extra leafs for added strength. So now I have 13 leafs per side. Rides stiff and takes alot to squat the rear, but I like that way. Plus I wanted a extra inch in lift. Just seemed easier to do it this way than buying a new set. Cost is a factor too, might be cheaper to buy a new set. Custom springs get kinda expensive.
BB,
I just add springs. I might throw a few originals out and add a few from the junkyard until i get what i want. I got a mixed set of F150 and Mopar 1 ton springs on my F100. I can haul anything i want.
Consider it.
