i am doing an engine swap today at work and the 99 we are putting the engine has a sticker rating the engine at 250 HP but the 2000 engine we are putting in is rated at 235 which is what i thought all those engine were. does anybody have any ideas on why the 99 is rated at 250
thanks
tim
there was a known mistake at the factory where some 99 engines got stickers that stated 250 hp, they are in fact 235hp. the 250 hp engines dod not come out until '01:
"In 1997 the horsepower was increased to 225 and the torque was increased to 480 ft/lbs.
Early 99 valve cover stickers were incorrect showing 250 HP. The engine was actually rated at 235 HP with all accessories installed.
The engines did develop 250 HP and 505 ft/lbs torque for automatic transmission and 275 HP and 520 ft/lbs torque for manual transmission in October 2000.
Engines with automatic transmissions were increased to 525 ft/lbs torque after January 02."
Interesting...is there a reason for the change of the forged rods to the powdered rods? If there was a power increase then why did they put in a weaker rod?

The powdered rods are stronger in theory, but are more brittle.
Forged rods will "give" a little bit while the powdered rods will snap.
So which engines have the powdered rods and which have forged ?
I have an early 2000 and would like to know
Thanx
the cut off date for forged rods was oct, 16 2000. if you engine was built before that it has forged rods. rummor has it that some motors after that date had them but the only way to check is to pull one of the inspection plugs and look at them. a good rule of thumb is the PM rods are good to around 400RWHP
