Diff. wire

What are the wires that run to the top of the rear differentail for?
(2002 F350 4x4)

VSS. Mine went out and lost cruise control and check engine light soon came on. Put my code reader on it, read the code. Bought a VSS part at napa for $11.36 I think it was. Took a total of 5 minutes to replace. 4 minutes to get some tools and the creeper out and put back when done. Less than a minute to unscrew the hold down bolt pull out pull out the old and slide the new one re attach wire clip.
