Monster.com

I posted a resume on Monster(DOT)com this weekend. It had the usual personal data, name, experience, and type of job I'm looking for. I have been thinking about changing jobs for a while, and I am well aware of the traditional methods of job-searching, but I decided to be impulsive and just throw myself out into cyberspace.
I got one email reply from a company that seems legimate and that I have heard of. OK, so far so good.
The problem, I also received one email from a company that doesn't identify itself, and wanted "managers" claiming I could make lots of money. They left a link for me to click, but I deleted it, thinking I would get hacked into, or get a virus or a worm.

Should I be getting involved with Monster?
What are the pros and cons, and is this a fools game?

I had a friend who was using monster to see what kind of jobs were open to her while she held her job. It's a no-risk way of looking around and getting offers without getting in too deep. I think it's harmless as long as you keep making smart moves like the one you did!

there are lots of "spam, get rich quick" types that will contact you as well as legit ones

I've been on Monster for about 18 months now, and I use it primarily as a job search engine where I have it set up to notify me via email each day, when my daily search matches location, and job category, and keywords. I can update my resume and change my profile anytime I want. I get inquiries almost weekly, including those that include get rich quick schemes, but for the most part, it's in the category what I am looking for. I'm on a dozen other internet job boards, but I can say that with Monster, I've had the best results for my contracting business. It's like anything else, there is some bad with the good, but I recommend it! Good luck to you !
