I have a '94 full size Bronco that will start just fine; however, it will not switch out of park. Also the brake lights are not working. Turn signals work and the standard taillights work. Just the brake lights do not work. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Your 94 may require you to depress the brake pedal before it will release out of park. If this is the case, you should check the sensor (mine's at the brake pedal, yours may be somewhere else) for the brake lights. If your sensor was shot, then the electronics wouldn't register you depressing the brake pedal and the shifter wouldn't release out of park.
Check into that sensor, maybe by then someone else will be along to confirm or give you a better idea of what's going on.
That would be my first check as well. Check the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal. It completes the circuit for the brake lights as well as the "safety release" for the tranny shifter.
Fuse to brake lights that are not working is the first place to look--Then if is good(test with test light on end of fuse- don't just look at it) test the wires at the brake light switch plug- one will be hot all the time ( fuse good) press brake pedel down and other Should be hot(hot-aka batt voltage)- lightly pull on wires at plug if rear brake light don't come on to see if wires are broken in insulation.Don't see many shift interlock solenoids bad- usually blown fuse or broken wires.IF it ever happens again in a bad place or time--DO THIS turn the ign switch on just before radio comes on and pull shifter into neutral- then start truck and drive home(or to repair shop)
tbrohlf, check the brake sensor on your master cylinder. I had the same thing happen to my 94 (stuck in park) and that is where my problem originated. After blowing several fuses, I finally found that brake fluid had corroded the sensor and was shorting out the circuit.
BillyBob, what I'm saying is that if the problem continues (blown fuses), he may want to check the sensor on the master cylinder. Until he finds the reason for the blown fuse, it will likely happen again.
