I have a 86 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 5.0L engine, and I just recently have been killing on the freeway and at stoplights. I was told it was the in line fuel pump so I replaced it. Then I replaced the rotor thinking it was bad, but I cannot figure out the problem. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking electrical but dont know where to start! Help!!!

its almost like it just shuts off!! it doesnt run out of gas it just quits. then 5 minutes later it starts up and i drive away. its killing me! lately its taking long for it to start after it kills..
It very well could be the tfi, I had a duraspark that used to do that to me, run for a while, then shut down, let it cool, fire up and off we go... made for a long drive, kept doing this on a normally 8 hour drive. I think it ended up being about 10...
i will replace that tomorrow the more i read other problems the more i think that is it thanks for your help i will post after i try tomorrow and let you know thanks again!
If it's heat-related, clean any dirt and gunk off the suspected parts. It acts like insulation. Also check for anything that might improve airflow there. Electronics stores sell a freeze spray that will quickly cool parts down. If that suddenly gets you going, you have your culprit. Just sorta guessing here, and applying what I know about electronics repair in general.
On that note, smokey, clean your alternator contact points(all plugs) as well as any and all ignition contacts. Going thru your fuse box won't hurt either. Older trucks may have corrosion on any and all of those, and that alone can be a trouble-spot.
Maybe make sure the battery isn't flopping around loose and shorting the circuit by touching against the body when you brake. Hey, I've seen it happen before.
I had the ignition module go bad on my truck... did that for a little while.. Starting running fine.. dieing... firing back up..... and then eventually wouldnt move at all... it would idle but not go... any gas and bam shut down.
I agree with the rest, it is the TFI or Duraspark box if you are running it. That is the way they fail, heat up, quit, cool down, work, heat up, quit....
replaced the tfi didnt help, i maybe wrong about the heat theory it does it when its cold too. truck turns over but its like there is no gas. like i said i replaced the in line pump and i can hear it running but i am wondering if it could be the tank pump? any ideas? and thanks for the help its been great!
