86 ford f150 302 duraspark
have same problem from time to time.
if you pull codes you will have a code 31 cont or running or both if there are any other codes you may have other problems. try this solution then clear codes and see if prob returns and what codes you get.
bet you have a little oil in your aircleaner caused by blow by
change the little filter if it is oily and smart to ensure your air filter is clean also.the oil vapors travel down the air cleaner outlet hoses to your throttle body assembly and clog a few things up.
here is what i do to correct this problem
1. take some carb cleaner
2. remove air oultet hoses from throttle body assem ( tba)
look in to the tba you will see a 1/4 hole on the right side of both the upper and lower air ports
3. spay the carb cleaner in the top hole untill it flows clean. repeat using the lower hole wait a short while and try again to ensure it is clean.
should fix the problems for you.
4. some times i have to repeat above a few days later and it is very dirty again but after a treatment or two i am good to go for months.
Map sensor could be a problem also. noted best if this happens only after engine is hot. after it cools it will start and run again for a while untill hot again. try above first and if it is still happening it could be your map.
best thing is to pull you codes. Autozone will do this for you and advance also. If you are getting codes 16, 18 it is very likely it is your map. if you need to replace map get motorcraft only the cheaper ones are crap and you will only spend the same on several of the cheapy advance auto or autozones as you will on one motorcraft. check several part dealers i am sure you will find one that carries motorcraft. you are not limited to the dealer and his list and mark up either.
