i have 79 custom without a/c and i am thinking of converting it to a/c, i have found several donor trucks that i can get everything i need. but howmuch ductwork and such behind the dash do i need to get, any help is appreciated, thanx
See if you can find an underdash AC there alot easier to install but maybe a little harder to find some of the ford dealers would put them in when a customer ordered AC they sit under the dash and have there own fan and coil its like 3 wire 2 hoses a couple of brackets and your done I think they came in 70-77ish fords. You might find them in 60-69 mercades to
the underdash setup is possible but very ugly. i installed a deluxe style ac unit in my supercab the parts should cost under 200.00. i used all factory parts.
I used two donor trucks to get my parts I got the dash, wiring, and everything. the whole unit comes apart fairly easy and in just a few big pieces. just label all your wires and vacuum lines. the hardest part for me was cutting that big whole in the firewall.but that will go okay if you make you a template from the donor truck. I am no mechanic and i did it okay. It was just very time consuming.

I just bought a complete running 79' parts pickup with ac that still blows cold and I want air in my 79' I'm restoring. Do you think it would be easier to just remove that portion of the cab off the donor and graft it back on the project truck? I'm gonna smooth out my fire wall some anyway? How did you do your pump? I dont like that big ugly york pump sitting on top of the motor like that. By the way NICE!!! TRUCK!!!
I just cut my fire wall with a air cuttung tool. Of course i had my fender, inner fender and my dash off out of the way and you will have to do that too. Once you get all that stuff out of the way it is not hard to cut the whole.

I'm down to a absolutly bare cab anyhow, so its just a matter of moving parts now with painting inbetween.
