Does anybody know a cheap way, or know some trucker who goes cross-country that would be willing, to ship a wrap-around step rear bumper?
There's a guy in Palm Springs who has a bumper I LOVE, but UPS, FEDEX, and anybody I talk to require that it be crated for shipping. I find it hard to believe that there isn't ANYBODY who will ship an awkward item like this without crating it.
Does anybody have any ideas? I live near New Haven, CT.
I just shipped a rear bumper from a 1957-63 truck by UPS. It cost about $20. They charged more because of the size, not the weight. I made a box to fit the bumper. This was a factory bumper, not a wrap-around.
Try a truck freight company and have it shipped from terminal to terminal. it's usually pretty cheap. they may want you to strap it to a pallet but that is easy enough. I have shipped engines this way and the most expensive was $110 from tenessee to denver.
Went through this myself with a bumper...found DHL/Airborne Express to be the cheapest. Had to build a cardboard box. After wrapping in duck tape it was a thing of beauty
I think it depends on the locations. Smaller rural areas might not have big enough storage on the buses. But I don't know for sure. All of my big stuff has been shipped via Greyhound.
