I have a 79 Lariat with 460, C6, and 3.50. and done 86000 k's, 51000 miles. I'm planning on buying an rv trailer of some sort and was wondering what experiances or advice anyone may have. I'm planning on doing quite a lot of travelling in Canada and the States in the next few years and was wondering if I should use the 79 or buy something newer and maybe more economical?
I was thinking something in the 20 foot range and prefer a trailer to a fifth wheel. Thanks
You shouldn't have any problem pulling the trailer. I pull a 16'horse trailer and don't really even know it's back there. Now get 3 or 4 horses, the occasional 120-130 square bales and the ole 400 works on the hills. If your going to be doing a lot of pulling you might want to look into a powerstroke. It would save you alot on fuel!
I had an 84 F150 4x4 w/ Hellwig springs and a goosneck mount in the bed. a 1/4" plate was across the frame under the bed with the mount through the bed floor. extra heavy duty stuff. the load was right on top of the axle & well balanced while pulling.
A few things to consider are the age of not only the truck itself as a whole but individual driveline components. My personal opinion is if you're going to use the truck you've got, or even a new one, make sure that you've got AAA or some other type of breakdown coverage for long trips Because whether it's 3 mos. or 30 yrs. old, ANYTHING can break!
