custom hoods or scoops?

i think harwood has some hood scoops and cowl pieces that you can put on your hood, dont know if they are weldable or if you have to use 2-sided tape, try looking on the jegs or summit websites, they will have more info. or of you are able to weld and fabricate, get some sheet metal and make your own

I have a 5" cowl induction scoop and I like it. They are also available in 2" but I didn't care for the looks of them as you can barely see them. I will say 5-6" is as high as I'd want to go as it blocks a bit of my view already. I got an old hood from the bone yard ($30) and riveted the scoop on, and then fiberglassed it all in. It's perfectly smooth now, looks like a factory job. I have a hole cut in it and my air cleaner rises up through.

Alright, took me long enough but here's a picture from the underside of the hood. It's dirty but you get the idea. The center rib gets cut and some of the rear support ribbing is cut too. It would be nice to have a slightly smaller diameter air cleaner so you didn't have to chop so much but the smaller ones I found were about half that size and so were too restrictive for my engine. I don't have it on there now but I'm using a velocity stack base with a full size air cleaner on top to rise up into the scoop. It's a cool setup.
I got the scoop off ebay from a seller named mr.goodglass who's been around forever. I like his scoops because they have the center ridge which looks exactly like the ridge on the original hoods. Quality is excellent, no sagging or anything. Check out auction 7991599891, That's the same scoop I'm using. He also does them in a longer scoop but it won't fit our hoods.

thats pretty nice ivanribic...i heard from someone who tried using rivets on an induction that after a while they snapped through the scoop and just cracked all the paint and what not around the scoop...how long have you had yours done? have you ever heard of the rivets snapping through like that?

The only possible way I could see rivets doing that is if they're in upside down or if the fiberglass used to make the scoop wasn't mixed right and it became brittle. Although I just put the hood on the truck that scoop has been glassed in there for almost a year now and I know Pro has a similar scoop riveted to his hood which has been on for a couple years with no problems. FWIW we bought my buddy a hood from UP22 for his GMC. It's an all fiberglass hood with 2 or 3" scoop. It looks cool but he had to do a lot of work on it and make a lot of mods to get it to fit right. Someone else in this forum bought some parts for their 73-79 truck and had a TON of problems with them. Just based in what I've seen I wouldn't recommend them but that's just me.
Woody, I have to wire up my fan relays in the bed and a few relays up front. I have a LOT of electrical stuff to play with. Going to do it in a few but it's still just over 100 degrees outside . . . not looking forward to that.
