Build Sheet ?

New to the forum first post. I just bought an 02 V10. Is there any way to avoid the dealer to get a build sheet. I have a jeep and they have an email address that you can use to get a build sheet. Does ford have one?

On another post I found a Ford contact and sent in a request and received mine yesterday. (I greatly appreciate Ford for even doing this service. I'm trying to figure out if I have a tow package and confirm the rear end ratio.)

Thought I'd use this thread to discuss Build Sheet results.

Mine is a 2002 V10 (Limited according to the decals).

The Build Sheet raised a few issues:

1) It says "Leather Surfaces Captain's Chairs"
- mine doesn't have rear captains chairs
- I assume this is talking about the front seats.

2) "Dual Power Heated Trailer Tow Mirrors"
- mine aren't the trailer tow mirrors but regular mirrors with the turn signal indicator in the mirror.
- I assume the Tow Mirrors were switched out at some point.

3) "3.73 Limited Slip Rear Axle Ratio".
-I'd hoped for the Tow Package but it's not looking good is it.

4) "Black illuminated Running Boards"
- mine are body colour and so is the front grill.

5) "LT 265/75R X 16 OWL All-Season Tires"
- mine has 295/75R X 16 Bridgestone T/As
- I've already got new std. Bilsteins (still in the boxes) in my garage so I hope this truck doesn't have a short lift kit under there.

6) "Adjustible Foot Pedals", "Trip Computer", "Power 6-Way Driver's Seat"
- I'm short so the foot pedals will work great.
- Power Pedals, TC & Power Seat are confirmation that it's a "Limited" if I recall another post correctly. Correct?

From other posts I thought the Trailer Tow Mirrors ONLY came with the trailer package (ie I thought I'd read that if you have them then you have the tow package) but this Build Sheet line item is by itself with no mention of any package and my 2002 doesn't have a rear sway bar and it has the 3.73 rear end. It's been parked out in the snow since I got it - and it was dark when I looked but it did look like it had a huge factory tranny cooler (I'm sure I saw two full height/width radiators). I guess I'll have to shovel some snow away and crawl under it.

What else should I look for to see if it originally came with a tow package?

There was no "Tow Package" available in 2002 so yours does not have it. You not having the tow mirrors is odd so maybe they were changed out and the tow mirrors were available as a stand alone option. Yes, they are referring to the front seats for the captain chairs. The rear axle has nothing to do with a tow package. The running boards being different is weird, I guess Ford screwed that up on the build sheet. Oh, and yes, rest assured your Excursion is a Limited.

Sorry that should have said BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

OK no tow package - thanks - I finally have that sorted out. And my brother-in-law tonight said that the extra rad is probably for A/C. Never thought of that. (The snow's melting so I'll try to confirm that tomorrow.)

So then, I guess I do need to order that highly praised heavy duty Excursion tranny cooler mentioned on this site somewhere. Was there anything else in later Excursion Tow Packages beyond the cooler and the rear anti-sway bar and tow mirrors?

As for the oddities - I'd looked in vain for a photo of an '02 with a painted grill so I'm guessing that it was previously replaced with a colour matched '03 grill. The black vs painted running boards - yes I can see it just being a build sheet typo.

Since it was an import to Canada from Texas by a dealer here who drove it for personal use it's been checked out a couple times. Before we bought it, we also had it inspected and pulled a CARFAX on it too, and it came up clean except for about an old $1,300 or so, "estimate" but nothing else.

Our thinking was that estimate for work was relatively small change these days (side glass or something) and we couldn't find any obvious signs of any repair/repaint (I'll have to look again). However, now I'm thinking, maybe a new grill, broken tow mirror plus install...

No matter - all relatively small issues. Thanks for the information folks!
