I was driving to the dump today and my brake warning light came on for a few minutes. My parking brake was off (since it doesn't work anyway ) so what could this mean? My passenger-side front brake has been dragging enough to put a pull on the steering and braking

Indicating low brake fluid level because the passenger side front brake , has a wheel brake cylinder leaking maybe ??
I think there is a proportioning valve under the truck with a switch that will light the light if it moves too far one way,[if my memory serves me correct].Man I am digging deep into my brain on that one.
check the adjustment of your rear brakes probably way out of adjustmest causing a lot of wheel cyl travel sometimes enuff to cause a brake cyl to loose its seal thus looseing brake pressure then the springs will push it back together the brake waring light is not connected to the E-brake on this era truck only to the proportioning valve to sense loss of pressure in the brake system and if a failure occurs the proportioning valve is spring loaded to block the end that looses pressure

It means you have a problem with your brake system and you need to stop driving the truck until you figure out what it is and fix it.
Possiblities include:
Low brake fluid (but where did it go?) which means a leak somewhere
Bad master cylinder
Bad rear brake cylinders
Leak somewhere (bad hose or steel line)
There is no connection between the emergency brake and the brake warning light.
