My boat is powered by a 302 Ford and I couldn't be happier, if it would run.
It is a late seventies 78? power plant and has a PERTRONIX ignition coversion.
The engine is fairly new, less 1000 hours,.
The cap, rotor and wires have been replaced.
The PERTRONIX ignition module has been replaced.
The coil has been replaced several times.
The distributor has been looked over and looks good
It is not a firing order problem and it's driving me nuts, not to mention the possibility of getting stranded somewhere.
After running for an hour or two, it will start missing and stumbling and then quit.
It has fuel and appears to have spark.
After a cooling down period of 20 to 30 minutes, it will refire and run good again for an hour or so, start stumbling and quit.
I am a professional mechanic but this has me stumped, What have I overlooked?
i would lean towards vapor lock in the tank, or else your ignition system might be getting hot. i pound an easy way to bypass ford ignition and they sell an hei gm style dist on ebay for around a hundred bucks, 1 wire ignition and works like a dream
