Lets see, to most of my friends and kids around my school, at least a 10. To my friends that know how to drive, like 3 of them, I'm an 8. To the rest of the world, call it a 6.345.

In my head, like a 9.3.

I'm probably about an 8. Haven't had a ticket since '88, I drive the speed limit or close to it, don't get on it unless there's no one around, and I've always driven more carefully with passengers in the car. Now may dad, he's about a -3. I won't even ride with him anymore, he scares the hell out of me. Why he's still around instead of dying horribly in a fiery wreck, I'll never know. I just hope he doesn't take anyone with him when he goes...

I am capable of being a very good driver, and when I am around other cars etc. I am probably a 7 or 8.
When I am in the car by myself, without other vehicles/objects around I am a liability to myself, and would be a 0, easily...

I've had friends tell me that I was a good driver. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm a safe driver; just that they trust my driving skills.

Also depends on my mood. It's two different driving worlds out there; rural and city.

I guess a 7.5

It is rather hard to rate driving.

Everyone drives differently & everyone does stupid crap. I see it everyday since I drive for a living & yes, I do stupid crap also. Another thing you have to consider is that everyone thinks they are perfect behind the wheel of a vehicle. The sad thing is when they feel perfect, relaxed, & comfortable is when the accidents happen.

If I have to rate myself.....

I'm going to lean towards the -1 slot.

I don't know what I'm doing. I'm scared crapless every time I have to drive. I never know when some inferior perfect driver is going to decide to hit me because I'm in his way. Or when the woman that just doesn't have her make-up on correctly is going ram me from the back side.

I drive everything & can drive anything with wheels.
When I was trained to drive Tractor-Trailer it was pounded into my head by my individual trainer that confidence kills. I saw him roll his truck a couple months later just outside Lancaster, KS with a routine pipe load going to Portland, OR (I was following with a identicle load). Why did he roll it? Normal corners that he has gone around many times at a higher speed limit them posted. He was confident that he could do it since he's done it in the past.

Currently 150 million miles (cars, truck, big truck, motorcycles) with no accident of my fault.

You think I'm kidding, but I am not. I feel like the worse driver out there, but in the long run I am more observant of others & my surroundings.

Compared to the traffic around here I'm off the charts! Just yesterday in a construction zone a guy in a Chrysler 300 (tiny dark-tinted windows) decided I owed it to him to let him in front of me since his lane was ending... no turn signal! I hate that... I don't allow people over without it. I guess sometimes I drive a little more offensively (like blocking people from merging like that without a signal) but usually I'm probably around 8-9 range. I always try to take care of my passenger, so I speed slower (or not at all) with a passenger. Or maybe it just weighs my truck down so much I can't get up to speed? Any speeding I do is only a couple miles over the limit... can't go much faster really.

Yep! Me too. Ya gotta pay attention to your lane ending... I hate when people don't realize it's coming to an end until the end, then they instantly want over. Those people usually don't get over by me, lol.

Sounds like you're just not giving yourself near enough credit. With all that training, you what to do what not to do, you're just a defensive driver...which is a good thing. Maybe you just need a touch more self-confidence. Your trainer didn't have it quite right. It's not confidence that kills, it's over-confidence. It's okay to give yourself some credit where due.

I've seen these over-confident people on the roads everyday, buzzing around like they own the road with not a care in the world for other drivers. Those are the people to watch out for.

150 million miles without an accident that was your fault? That's pretty damn close to a 10 in my book!

They know it is ending, trust me. Don't they post the signs at least a mile before it ends?

If it is a ongoing closure for repair, don't those same people drive the damn road every day?

Rating systems suck. Ecpecially when the people are rating themselves.

I read all these posts & everyone posted that they are near perfect driver's. So I figured that I must be a lousy driver with all my training.

The only recordable accident I've had since I starting training 11 years ago is the one in the thread linked below.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=303198

And I have to say it was 30% skill & 70% luck that I ran the man over & didn't even put a bruise on him.

I am a good driver & I know how to control whatever vehicle I'm driving. I even have escape plans if needed but I also do stupid crap just like everyone else.

It is my job to watch for & avoid stupid people & their more then common behavior.

Could it be that perhaps those who care about their vehicles enough to belong to a forum such as this one tend to drive far better than those on the road who only care about the time it takes them to get from point A to point B? I have noticed that most of the reckless drivers I come across are driving small ricey cars or fad cars like the new Charger, 300, Malibu Maxx, H2, and that wretched Lexus SUV... sorry if that offends anybody, but when someone is more concerned with having the coolest new car on the road than they are with other drivers, there's a problem. Not to say there aren't bad drivers in every segment! These guys just stick out more, I suppose. More bad drivers per capita than other brands...

When I was young I thought I was at least an 8 or 9, but looking back I was probably a 3 or 4. Now, with a lot more experience under my belt (35 years on motrcycles) I'm a much more defensive driver, and many times feel I'm the best driver on the road, but occasionaly still catch myself paying too little attention. This happens on long stretches of divided highway with little or no traffic. About ten years ago I ended up hydroplaning and doing a 360 in an F-150 at 60 MPH. Suddenely I was a #10 driver the way I pulled out of it. If I hadn't been a #3 moments earlier I would have reduced my speed for the conditions and not been in the situation.

That is the marks of a skilled and safe driver, but they say experience is the best teacher, many get taught by messing up and getting into a wreck. I agree that it over confidence, not just confidence that gets most drivers into trouble. I am never confident that someone won't pull something stupid that I will have to respond to, actually I expect it. I haven't had a serious accident in years, and those were my own foolishness, but only once have I had an accident involving another driver, and he was running right at dusk wiht no headlights, and it was slow speed. I have saved myself from many many accidents though. Had one the the girl wasn't paying attention so bad that she turned right in front of me, I was totally stopped, and she still managed to rub across the corner of my bumper! She admitted she never even saw me... a black car in bright daylight, in the middle of an intersection... but had I not stopped, I am certain it would have been much worse. I agree that many think they are good drivers but are some of the worst hazards out there. Not everybody is that way though. I respect the big rigs because I understand their driving needsa, and allow them space to turn, to make runs for the hills, never slow quickly in front of them, and signal them in when they pass me. I haven't personally run over the road, but I have run enough trailers to understand the needs. It doesn't matter if you have a heavy or light truck, if there's a trailer attached, many will just have to pass you and then slow down, or turn, or whatever stupid and unsafe act they think they are in such a hurry to do. Does it make me unsafe that I am confident in that I know the hazards and expect to see them? I don't think so, and I say the same applies to you. You are fully aware of the hazards, and you have to be somewhat confident, or you wouldn't have made it that many miles. You would be a nervous wreck if you lacked the confidence to operate safely every day. I certainly hope that is not the truth. I don't worry about my driving, it's all the other fools that I worry about...
It is my job to watch for & avoid stupid people & there more then common behavior.

Wink

D-ranged2.5,

I have only personally met one other user (that I know of) on this site & really can't rate his driving. Had to keep my eyes closed because he scared skid marks in my undies (no, just kidding. Never rode with hime).

With as much as I drive & see things, I can tell you that stupid driver's are not brand specific. I've seen Ford trucks act just the same as Geo Metro's.

Now don't get me wrong when I holler BS. I'm not calling these people here bad driver's. Perhaps they do stand up to their driver ratings (only because they are on the site posting & not out driving ).

What I was doing was pointing out all the perfect driver's, and the rating systems suck especially when your rating yourself. So I figured I would become the lousy driver.
